NEW SINGLE RELEASE – “THE WILD COLONIAL BOY”

I’m delighted to bring you a brand new single for 2020, a cover of an old favourite of mine, “The Wild Colonial Boy”. It’s a song that I have wanted to record for a very long time, and I’m delighted that I recently got the chance to get back into the studio with the brilliant Wayne Thorose, to put it down!

It’s now exclusively available to hear on your favourite radio stations by request, but it will be on all the usual digital platforms in the coming days!

Thanks you all for your continued support, I can’t wait to get out on the road playing for you all again.

Gerry Guthrie & Friends – Enniscrone 2020

The incredible success story around the 2019 ‘Gerry Guthrie & Friends Weekend of Dancing’ at the award winning 4-star Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone, Co. Sligo, set the stage very early-on for a much-anticipated return visit in 2020.  Responding to feedback, Gerry will be returning to the same location this year for his sixth annual ‘Gerry Guthrie & Friends Dancing Weekend’.  Enniscrone is in a beautiful picturesque setting, located just 10 miles from Gerry’s home town of Ballina in Co. Mayo.

The eagerly awaited 2020 ‘Gerry Guthrie & Friends Weekend of Dancing’ takes place from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th March 2020, with an impressive line-up of popular artists.

Friday 6th March 2020:

From 9.30pm:  Stuart Moyles, Jimmy Buckley & Band, plus Gerry Guthrie & Band from 11.30pm

Saturday Afternoon:  7th March 2020

People wishing to attend on any of the three days are welcome to do so; admission is €15 on Friday & Saturday nights and €12 on Sunday afternoon (children under 14 free on Sunday).

Such is the remarkable popularity of Gerry’s ‘Weekend of Dancing’ that the package, which includes accommodation, meals at the hotel and admission to all shows, has sold out for some considerable time. There may be availability locally at the other Hotels, Guest Houses or Bed & Breakfast accommodation.  If there is difficulty in sourcing accommodation locally, people could check with establishments in Ballina.

Enniscrone is a small seaside town, a perfect place to stop off for a dance when driving the wild Atlantic Way, or visiting the stunning championship links course for a game of golf, with its well-positioned championship holes routed through spectacular dunes.  Walkers would also enjoy this beautiful area.

The Diamond coast borders three miles of golden sandy beaches and is about ten miles travelling distance from Ballina and less than an hour from Sligo, Westport and Knock. There are many scenic drives locally; the route to Ballina via the Coast Road follows the course of the famed River Moy as it meanders its way to the Atlantic Ocean. The ‘Gerry Guthrie & Friends Weekend of Dancing’ in The Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone is the perfect place for a break or a romantic escape.

Gerry’s New Release – ‘If I had You To Have and to Hold’

‘If I had You To Have and to Hold’ – The new single from Gerry Guthrie

‘If I had You To Have And To Hold’ is the endearing title of the great new energetic single from Gerry Guthrie. Written by Benny Barnes and Dee Marais, this classic up-tempo number, also known as ‘Poor Man’s Riches’, was a national hit for American Country artist Benny Barnes in 1956 and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Chart. It was also recorded by George Jones on his 1962 album entitled George Jones ‘Sings Country and Western Hits’, an album of hits previously recorded by other artists.

Gerry’s new song tells us that into every life come many kinds of riches. The duality of lack and abundance of riches has existed since time began and was evident to the writers of ‘If I had You To Have And To Hold’ back in the 1950s. The lyrics tell a story of travelling near and far, searching for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The moral of the story is that the greatest of all riches is love.  Real love can make you the wealthiest man in the land, right where you are, without any travelling or searching.

Gerry Guthrie is now one of Ireland’s foremost headlining country acts and 2018 has so far been his busiest year since the formation of his own band. He feels gratified for the success he has achieved with the help of radio presenters and the people in the printed media, plus friends and fans.   This enables him to perform these days at the premier venues and the big festivals and events the length and breadth of the country and indeed in the UK, Scotland and at guest spots abroad.

Bookings for the remaining months of the year show a continuation of the same busy trend for Gerry and the band.   The success of ‘If I had You To Have And To Hold’ will catapult Gerry into another successful year in 2019, his diary is already in great shape with bookings secured nationwide to date.

A few years back Gerry began hosting a ‘Gerry Guthrie & Friends’ dancing weekend, which became increasingly popular each year.  These events usually took place down in the South East of Ireland. In 2019 Gerry is homeward bound, taking his weekend of dancing to the West of Ireland.  Next year’s dancing weekend takes place from April 5th to 7th in the 4* Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone, Co. Sligo just 10 miles from Gerry’s home town of Ballina.   Among the artists / bands performing are Robert Mizzell & The Country Kings, Sandy Kelly, Olivia Douglas, John Glenn and The Mainliners plus three shows with Gerry and his band. There will also be a number of surprise guests.
